Good to know
- The PF wage ceiling went up from ₹15,000 to ₹25,000 a month on 17 Sep 2026. PF on wages above it is optional, and the pension share is capped at 8.33% of ₹25,000 (₹2,083 a month).
- Interest is worked out each month and added once a year, on 31 March. EPFO declares each year's rate after the year ends; this calculator uses 8.25% (2025-26) for every year.
- Withdrawals after 5 years of continuous service are tax-free. Interest on your own contributions above ₹2.5 lakh in a year is taxed every year at your slab rate.
- The employer's pension share (EPS) builds a monthly pension from age 58, not a lump sum, so it isn't in the balance above.
- While you're working you can take out up to 75% of the eligible balance for set needs; the rest stays until you leave your job or retire.
- Under the old regime, your own contributions (EPF + VPF) count towards the ₹1.5 lakh deduction. That saving isn't included above.
