Good to know

  • An international fund invests in foreign funds, mostly US shares, so you also gain or lose as the rupee moves against the dollar.
  • Many international funds are closed to new money or limit SIPs, because Indian mutual funds together can invest only $7 billion abroad. Check that the fund accepts your money before you plan on it.
  • Gains are taxed at 12.5% if you hold for more than 24 months, and at your slab rate before that. There's no ₹1.25 lakh exemption.
